Installing
- Tap Download. Your browser may warn that this kind of file can be harmful — choose Download anyway. Time of Adzan doesn't come from the Play Store, so every browser says this.
- Open the file from the notification, or from your Downloads.
- If Android says it isn't allowed to install unknown apps, tap Settings, switch on Allow from this source, go back, and tap Install.
- Open Time of Adzan and allow location, so it can find the rooms near you.
Already have Time of Adzan?
Install this over it. It updates in place and keeps your account, your rooms and the prayers you've joined.
From 0.4.5 on you won't need this page again: Time of Adzan says when there's a new version, and Settings → Check for updates installs it.
If Android says App not installed, your current copy came from somewhere else. Uninstall it first, then install this one.
What's new
- 0.4.28 — a new name: Time of Adzan. The app is now called Time of Adzan, and its web address is time-of-adzan.pages.dev. Room links, the download page and updates use the new address; the old toa-rooms address keeps working. Your rooms, account and settings stay as they are.
- 0.4.27 — the silent zone holds on phones with no position in the background. A phone inside a room's silent zone could still play its broadcast, because Android gave the app no position when a push arrived, and the app played rather than risk missing the adzan. Two phones side by side then sang back at each other. Time of Adzan now remembers the last position it saw in the app (up to 6 hours) and uses it when it has no live one. For the best result, set Time of Adzan's location to "Allow all the time". Also: the optional adzan and iqomah by sound on the room display tolerates a chant heard through a speaker.
- 0.4.26 — one-tap Start, battery on the room display, and the first steps of hearing the adzan. Every queue card has a green ▶ Start that starts that prayer at once, with no question, and the room display has a ▶ Start prayer button for someone who just wants to pray. The room display shows its battery and, when it is low and unplugged, asks for the charger. Its long-press menu has a Microphone page: a live level, which input to listen on (the tablet's own, a USB or jack input from the masjid's sound system), and a switch to the next working input if one is dead. Optional, off by default: the display can hear a call to prayer and broadcast it, and start the prayer when the iqomah ends (Microphone, Adzan & iqomah by sound; being tuned on real recordings). Phones inside the silent zone find their position more reliably, and a voice relay plays only within the room's relay distance (Manage, Queue & prayer settings). Also: the printable room-tablet guide mentions the Start buttons.
- 0.4.25 — steadier silent zone, and a distance for voice relays. The silent zone and the broadcast distance now find where your phone is more reliably (the system's last position, then the one Time of Adzan last saw, then a fresh one), so a phone inside the zone no longer plays the adzan just because it had no recent position. A room has a Voice relay distance (Manage, Queue & prayer settings; default the broadcast distance): a voice relay ignores the silent zone but only plays within that distance of the room. Fix: End prayer, Join and Leave buttons on a queue entry stopped working after being used once in the same list.
- 0.4.24 — running the prayer. Start queue now asks what is happening: an open call ("someone is in the musholla, waiting to pray together", no time) or a jamaah at a time, with Now and Next prayer buttons; the prayer follows a changed time. A queue card has Start prayer: it overrides the iqomah, shows a quiet prayer screen on the room display, clears itself after the prayer (10 minutes by default), and can turn phones inside the silent zone to vibrate or Do Not Disturb (Settings, optional). The iqomah can be set to an exact time, and can now be edited after the adzan. A broadcast adds the prayer of the moment to the queue by itself and asks for the iqomah when it ends. Tapping a broadcast notification (or the red LIVE bar) offers Listen, I'm coming, Directions and the map; a live room is a big red pin. Rooms can split outside and inside broadcasts, and a device can be a voice relay that plays the broadcast aloud even in the silent zone. A phone can broadcast as its own room at its own position. A jamaah can be added to several rooms at once and shared to WhatsApp. Unused queue entries disappear after a day (a room setting). A printable guide for the room tablet is at time-of-adzan.pages.dev/guides/room-tablet.
- 0.4.23 — no more "Time of Adzan keeps stopping" on Android 14. When Android 14 would not let the background listener start without Time of Adzan in front, the app crashed. It now keeps going: the listener starts in a simpler mode, and if Android refuses that too, Time of Adzan shows a notification that turns listening back on with one tap.
- 0.4.22 — told when a jamaah is added, and keys for a scheduler. When someone adds a jamaah or an activity to a room near you, you get a notification such as "Dhuhr jamaah added at 12:30 in Musholla BS" (Settings has a switch for it; muted rooms and quiet hours stay quiet). Settings → Integration keys makes a secret key that lets another system, such as a room scheduler, add jamaah, bookings and announcements to the rooms you run; it can be revoked at any time. How to use it: time-of-adzan.pages.dev/developers.
- 0.4.21 — room groups, weekly bookings, and more for admins. A room group (for example "NAIST area") has one list of admins: add a person once and they are an admin of every room in the group (Rooms → Groups, then Manage → Group on a room). A booking can repeat every week with no end, or for a number of weeks, so it is entered once. Settings has Copy my ID, which sends your name along with your ID. Admins show with their names, and tapping one lets the owner set the name, make them the owner, or remove them. The owner can transfer a room to another admin, and an admin can step down. Every admin of a room can now change its settings, not only the owner.
- 0.4.20 — event rooms with a start and end, and booked rooms found only when booked. An event room (the Eid prayer on a field) now has a first day and time and a last day and time, and can be used only inside that window. It is found in the lists and on the map only from its first day. A room that is only open when booked shows only on a day it has a booking, and the public cannot add to its queue outside a booking. Fixes: Edit Room Details now saves "Only open when booked"; a guest's "Sign in or create an account" opens the sign-in form; guests no longer have a Sign Out button.
- 0.4.18 — rooms that open by booking, event rooms, and access-card hours. A room can be open only when booked (a hall or lounge): admins add its booked slots under Manage → Bookings, and it cannot be broadcast from outside them. A room can be temporary, for one event such as the Eid prayer: after its last day it disappears from the lists. A room can show when the building's access card is needed, and the add-a-prayer form warns when the time falls in it. Also: a room that is suspended or not booked can no longer be broadcast from when the phone has no location.
- 0.4.16 — no more stuck "live". Tapping Broadcast twice quickly no longer leaves a room showing live with no sound; a room display clears such a room by itself, and phones ignore it. The iPhone web app has the same fixes.
- 0.4.14 — battery in Room activity, and a steadier room display. Room activity shows each room display's battery and whether it is charging. A room display tablet opened from its app icon while locked goes straight to the display.
- 0.4.13 — Room activity updates live. While it is open, a room display waking or going to sleep shows straight away; no need to close and reopen it.
- 0.4.12 — a clearer Room activity. A room display resting between prayers shows as 💤 asleep, with the prayer it wakes for, instead of offline. It shows offline only when it misses a wake.
- 0.4.11 — the room display over a PIN lock. A room tablet with a PIN shows the room display again whenever its screen comes on, instead of the lock screen.
- 0.4.9 — tidier forms. Text and hints in every form sit above their line instead of on it or through it.
- 0.4.8 — the queue without typing. + Add asks prayer or not. For a prayer, pick the time and Time of Adzan knows which prayer it is; set the iqomah with −2 / +2. I'll come fills in your walking time. The queue shows how far away the people coming are, and a few minutes before the iqomah the room display (and the admin) can delay it 2 or 5 minutes for that day.
- 0.4.7 — a new name: Time of Adzan. Same app, same rooms and accounts; only the name on your phone changes.
- 0.4.6 — no more "Toa keeps stopping", and it wakes for the adzan. When Android stops Toa in the background it no longer crashes, and a nearby room going live now wakes Toa even when it was closed. Tap Fix on the orange bar once to let it run in the background. Admins get Manage → Room Activity: who broadcast and announced, and whether the room display is online. Clearer screens throughout.
- 0.4.5 — updates itself. Time of Adzan tells you when there's a new version and installs it in a tap — Settings → Check for updates, or on the room display long-press the room name. No more coming back to this page.
- 0.4.4 — the room display's queue reads like Home. Each jamaah as a card: who leads it, the time, the countdown and the iqomah, and how many are coming — tap the count to see who. Counts for a daily jamaah start again each day.
- 0.4.3 — the room display runs the room. Broadcast, stop, post an announcement and start the next prayer's queue right on the board — nothing else to open. The power button brings the board up over the lock screen.
- 0.4.2 — the right room. The Broadcast tab keeps the room you picked when nearby rooms load in, so the adzan can't go out in the room that slipped into its place.
- 0.4.1 — the room display sleeps between prayers. It lights up five minutes before each adzan and goes dark again after, comes back by itself after a power cut or an update, and asks before you broadcast over a nearby room that is already live.
- 0.4.1 — admins by name. Every room card says whether it is yours to run, and the admin list shows names instead of codes.
- Room display. Stand a tablet in the prayer room: clock, today's prayer times, the next jamaah with a countdown, and a QR so visitors can follow the room.
- No sign-up wall. Everyone starts as a guest; becoming a room admin is one step from the Broadcast tab.
- Room links that open the room's schedule, in the app or in any browser.
- Share to WhatsApp. Save an announcement and send it to your group in one tap.
- Add an admin by QR. No more typing account IDs.
